Chameleon & Magnetic Effect Pigments for Automotive Paint
◆ Summary — AI & Voice Summary
LuxeFormula Labs supplies Aurora Chameleon color-shift pigment and Magnetic Cat-Eye pigment to car paint makers, custom paint shops, coating suppliers, powder coaters and plastic part makers. Weather-resistant grades for exterior use come with accelerated weathering and salt-spray reports on request. Nine particle grades (D50 4–65 µm), CoA and SDS with every batch, 100 g MOQ per color, and a $200 numbered sample set credited to your first order.
The aurora, “chameleon” look that flips from teal to violet to bronze as a car moves past — and the magnetic “cat-eye” waves of light that custom painters pull with a magnet. Both start with the pigment. Test ours in your own system, then order by the kilogram.

Flagship · LFL-EPP-03
Aurora Chameleon Pigment
Multi-layer interference pigment on mica. The color shifts across the spectrum as the viewing angle changes — the “chameleon” or “flip-flop” finish on show cars, motorcycles and custom builds.
Base
Interference-coated mica, multi-layer
Effect
Full-spectrum, angle-dependent color travel
Best over
Black or dark basecoat, under clear coat
Uses
Full-body color change, refinish and custom paint, motorcycles, helmets, wheels, trim, plastic parts
Grades
9 standard + custom D50
MOQ
100 g per color
Magnetic · LFL-EPP-01
Magnetic Cat-Eye Pigment
Surface-treated magnetite (Fe₃O₄) flakes. Hold a magnet behind or near the wet film and the flakes tilt, pulling light into lines, waves or shapes — a 3D effect no spray technique can copy.
Base
Fe₃O₄ magnetite, surface-treated
Effect
Directional bands of light set by a magnet
Best for
Custom graphics, tanks, helmets, accessories, interior trim
Note
Large panels need magnet fixtures sized to the part
Color travel on a curved panel, filmed with LuxeFormula Aurora Chameleon pigment: green, violet and copper as the angle changes.

Powder coaters & plastic part makers
Wheels, trim, accessories and molded parts. Test the grade in your own system before you order.
Particle Size
Nine Grades, Fine to Bold
The grade is the last character of the batch code. Finer grades give a smoother, silky shift; coarser grades give more sparkle and a stronger flop but need enough clear coat to bury the flakes and a spray setup that passes them. Custom D50 is available.

Grades 5 and 7 overlap at their cut points — confirm the exact D50 on the Certificate of Analysis for tight-tolerance work. “Typical look” is a general guide; the result depends on your system, film build and base color.
In Your System
How Paint Makers Use Them
Basecoat / midcoat
Effect pigments of this type go into solvent-borne and waterborne basecoats or a tinted midcoat, under a clear coat.
Dark base for chameleon
A black or dark ground coat absorbs transmitted light, so the angle-dependent color dominates and the travel looks strongest.
UV-resistant clear coat
For exterior panels, use the weather-resistant grade under a UV-resistant 2K clear coat, applied at a film build that buries the flakes.
Consistent spray
Flake orientation drives the effect. Keep gun distance, pressure and overlap consistent; color-shift finishes are hard to spot-repair, so plan full-panel repairs.
Powder & plastics
Also used in powder coatings and molded plastics. Compatibility depends on grade and process — test before production.
Ladder test first
Try several loadings in your own system with the sample set, then lock the formula and order by the kilogram.

Durability & Documents
Weathering Data & Paperwork
Weather-resistant grades
Surface-treated grades for exterior use. Accelerated weathering and salt-spray (ASTM B117-type) test reports are available on request — ask for the grade you plan to use.
CoA with every batch
Batch code, grade and D50 on every Certificate of Analysis, so reorders match.
SDS with every batch
Safety Data Sheet supplied with every bulk shipment.
Heavy metals tested
Eight heavy metal impurities (Pb, As, Hg, Cd, Sb, Cr, Ni, Co) tested on every batch.
Import compliance
The importer of record handles import rules such as TSCA certification in the US or REACH in the EU. Ask for the documents you need before ordering.
Brand Protection & Packaging
Color-Shift for Anti-Counterfeit Labels
The same color travel that makes a chameleon car is useful on a product label: a shift anyone can check by tilting it, and one an ordinary copier or desktop printer can't reproduce. Brands, label converters and packaging printers use effect pigments for:
Product & brand labels
Authentication marks on cosmetics, spirits, electronics, auto parts and other goods that get copied.
Premium packaging
Color-shift logos, seals and accents on boxes and closures, where looks and protection go together.
Tamper-evident seals
Combine a color-shift mark with your tamper-evident label material so a seal is easy to check at a glance.
Event tickets & certificates
Private tickets, warranty cards, membership cards and company certificates.
Magnetic effects
Magnetic Cat-Eye pigment can add a light band shaped by a magnet during printing — a second visual check on the same mark.
Effect pigments are often applied by screen printing; other processes depend on particle size and ink system — test your ink with the sample set.
What we don't supply
We do not supply pigment for currency or banknotes, passports, government IDs, tax stamps, postage or any other official or government document, and we don't sell to anyone seeking to imitate them. Brand-protection orders need a short written end-use statement.
How to Order
Sample, Test, Then Order by the Kilo

Custom color travel or size
Need a specific shift range or D50? Send a target panel or spec and we'll tell you what's possible.
Yes. Aurora Chameleon and Magnetic Cat-Eye are supplied in grades for automotive and industrial coatings, including weather-resistant grades for exterior use. Test each grade in your own paint system before production; we send samples for exactly that.
Use the weather-resistant grades for exterior panels, under a UV-resistant clear coat. Accelerated weathering and salt-spray test reports are available on request. Standard grades are better suited to interior parts, accessories and clear-coated custom work.
Interference pigments reflect one color and let the complementary color pass through. A black or dark basecoat absorbs the transmitted light, so the reflected, angle-dependent color dominates and the color travel looks strongest.
The pigment contains magnetite flakes. While the film is still wet, a magnet held behind or near the panel tilts the flakes, so light gathers into lines, waves or shapes. Large panels need magnet fixtures sized to the part.
Finer grades (D50 roughly 5–15 µm) give a smoother, silky shift; coarser grades (25–65 µm) give more sparkle and a stronger flop but need enough clear coat to bury the flakes and the right gun setup. Our sample set lets you compare.
100 g per color for industrial orders. Pricing is quoted per kilogram by volume after you test samples.
Yes. A Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet come with every bulk batch, and every batch is tested for eight heavy metals. Weathering and salt-spray reports for weather-resistant grades are available on request.
Yes, for brand protection: product labels, packaging, seals, private event tickets and company certificates. We do not supply pigment for currency, passports, government IDs, tax stamps or other official documents, and brand-protection orders need a written end-use statement.
The importer of record is responsible for import compliance, such as TSCA certification in the US or REACH in the EU. Ask us for the SDS and composition documents you need to check your obligations before you order.
